A lovely and delicious traditional Italian Sponge Cake (Pan di Spagna) Recipe

Ingredients:
1/2 cup of flour
1/2 cup of cornstarch
4 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3/4 cup of sugar
1 dash of salt
Directions:
1. Beat the vanilla and yolks together. Then, mix in half of the sugar until the mixture is fluffy.
2. Sift the cornstarch and flour. Beat the egg whites and add salt until light and fluffy. Mix in the second half of the sugar beating until the egg whites form a peak.
3. Fold the yolk into the egg white mixture. Sieve the flour and cornstarch over the eggs. Continually mixing.
4. Grease a 12-inch round cake pan at least 3 inches in depth, adding wax paper to the bottom and pour the batter into the pan. Bake for 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. With a small knife, loosen the sides from the pan. Turn the pan over onto a cool rack leaving the wax paper on. Lastly, flip the layer over and cool it on a rack. Serve.
